The ‘Dairy and Beef Cattle Industry Competitiveness Enhancement’ project, which has been continuously promoted for over 20 years, supports milk improvement promotion, stable management maintenance for farms, and the improvement and repair of aging facilities and equipment.

Especially this year, to address labor shortages in rural areas, robotic milking machines will be newly supported to establish a smart livestock farming foundation. Additionally, the voices from the field reflecting actual farm needs have been actively incorporated, such as replacing aging barn roofs and supporting heating and cooling systems in milking rooms.

Along with this, as part of realizing livestock welfare, free school milk supply will be provided to about 84,000 students. This is expected to promote white milk consumption and improve the health of youth. Furthermore, a new project supporting dairy experience for socially disadvantaged infants and youth will be launched.

Moreover, the province plans to newly implement programs that help improve sensory and cognitive abilities of children and adolescents through interaction with animals, as well as relieve stress by providing psychological stability to youth. This is expected to serve as a foundation for therapeutic dairy farming and help dairy farmers’ management by generating off-farm income.

Shin Jong-kwang, Director of the Livestock Policy Division of Gyeonggi Province, said, “We will do our best to strengthen the foundation of the dairy industry and stabilize dairy farmers’ management by investing the largest budget ever,” adding, “We will spare no support to enhance the competitiveness of the domestic dairy industry before the 2026 FTA (Free Trade Agreement) tariff-free market opening for dairy products.”
