The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization announced the '2025~2026 Korea Tourism 100 Selections' on the 20th. They plan to hold a nationwide event encouraging visits during the Lunar New Year holiday travel season.
'Korea Tourism 100 Selections' is a project that promotes Korea's representative tourist destinations that both Korean citizens and foreign visitors must visit. It has been announced every two years since 2012. This year, selections were made through big data analysis including social media (SNS) search volumes and three rounds of expert written and on-site evaluations. The selections include sixty-one cultural tourism resources such as historic sites, buildings, and experience and leisure facilities, and thirty-nine natural ecological tourism resources such as forests, seas, and wetlands. By region, there are twenty-two in the Seoul metropolitan area, eleven in Gangwon, fifteen in Chungcheong, eighteen in Jeolla, twenty-eight in Gyeongsang, and six in Jeju.
Twenty-seven places, including Hangang Park, Seongsu pop-up stores, Sokcho Tourism and Fisheries Market, Incheon Gyodongdo, Daegu Sayuwon, and Jeongdong Simgok Sea Fan Trail, were newly listed this year. Fourteen places earned the honor of being selected for seven consecutive times. These include the five grand palaces (Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, Deoksugung, Changgyeonggung, Gyeonghuigung), Jeonju Hanok Village, Hallasan National Park and Jeju Olle Trail, Suncheonman National Garden and Wetlands, Bulguksa Temple and Seokguram Grotto, and Suwon Hwaseong Fortress.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will hold a nationwide visit certification event during the extended Lunar New Year holiday due to the designation of temporary holidays. Visitors can comfortably stop by selected sites near their hometown or on their way home, upload certification photos, or write reviews to enter a raffle for prizes. Participation methods can be found on the Korea Tourism Organization’s official website and the 'Korea Tourism 100 Selections' Instagram account. An official stated, "In the first half of the year, we will launch a 'Traveler’s Passport' featuring the Korea Tourism 100 Selections and operate a nationwide stamp tour. At the end of the year, we plan to award citizens who have visited the most places."
The Ministry will also expand the operation of the 'Digital Tourism Resident Card,' which offers various travel benefits when visiting depopulated areas, from thirty-four regions to forty-five regions. Local governments interested in participating can apply by the 14th of next month, and new regions will be selected with services starting in April.
