Gwangju Nambu Fire Station Urges Residents to Learn How to Use Emergency Escape Descenders
On the 16th, the Gwangju Nambu Fire Station urged the public to familiarize themselves with the use of the emergency evacuation device, the Wanganggi, which is used when evacuation becomes difficult during a fire.
The Wanganggi is an emergency evacuation device that allows users to escape from a building at a controlled speed according to their body weight when a fire occurs.
To use the Wanganggi, first hook and secure the device to the support bracket. Next, push the connected bracket out the window, check if anyone is outside, and then drop the rope to the ground.
After fastening the safety belt at chest height, pull the locking ring toward your chest. When descending, extend both arms and press against the wall to prevent the safety belt from coming loose as you go down past the window.
Park Chunghoon, chief of the Nambu Fire Station, said, "If you are not already familiar with how to use the Wanganggi, you may panic or struggle to use it correctly in an actual emergency," adding, "We will continue to expand education on the proper use of the Wanganggi to prepare for such situations."
