Ulsan City Begins Feasibility Study for KTX-Sancheon Stop at Taehwagang Station
Balanced Development Expected for Taehwagang Station and Ulsan Station as Railway Transportation Hubs
On the 14th at 2 PM, Ulsan City will hold a kickoff briefing for the "Feasibility Study on KTX-Sancheon Stop at Taehwagang Station" in the Traffic Bureau Director's Office at City Hall.
This project was initiated to meet the increasing demand from Ulsan citizens for high-speed train services via various routes and to improve accessibility for visitors in preparation for the 2028 Ulsan International Garden Expo.
The main content of the study includes a plan to have high-speed trains such as the approximately 200m-long KTX-Sancheon, which operate on the Gyeongbu High-Speed Line, branch off from Gyeongju Station onto the Donghae Line and stop at Taehwagang Station.
If the KTX-Sancheon stops at Taehwagang Station, it will diversify high-speed train options connecting the metropolitan area and other regions, alongside the Jungang Line KTX-Eum, which has been operating to Seoul Cheongnyangni since December last year.
Currently, Taehwagang Station serves various trains including the Donghae Line metropolitan electric train connecting to Bujeon Station at 15-minute intervals during rush hours, KTX-Eum connecting Seoul, Dongdaegu, and Gangneung, ITX-Ma-eum, ITX-Saemaeul, and Mugunghwa trains.
In the future, Taehwagang Station is expected to become a railway hub as the starting point for two hydrogen tram lines: Tram Line 1, which will connect to Sinbok Interchange, and the hydrogen tram between Taehwagang Station and Jangsaengpo.
With the addition of the KTX-Sancheon high-speed train stop, Taehwagang Station is expected to play a significant role in attracting tourists and supporting business activities in large industrial complexes, as it will serve various interregional rail lines.
An official from Ulsan City stated, "The feasibility study has begun to secure logical validity regarding the urgency, importance, and necessity of the KTX-Sancheon stop at Taehwagang Station," adding, "We will strive to achieve concrete results in the second half of the year when the study results are released."
