Waste Sorting Robot 'Robin'... Process Automation
Contribution of Troika Drive in the Resource Circulation Sector
ROBOne received two Innovation Awards at CES 2025, the world's largest electronics and IT exhibition. ROBOne is a robotics solution company whose management rights were secured by Korea Zinc through equity investment in September last year.
Korea Zinc announced on the 9th that ROBOne's waste sorting robot, ROBin, received Innovation Awards in two categories: 'Smart City' and 'Sustainability, Energy & Power.'
The representative product ROBin, which won the Innovation Awards at CES 2025, incorporates AIoT technology that combines artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT). When waste passes over the conveyor, the vision (camera) recognizes it, and the robot uses a vacuum blower attached to itself to autonomously pick up the target objects.
Previously, Korea Zinc invested in the robotics company to enhance work efficiency and productivity by automating a significant portion of the electronic waste sorting process in the resource circulation sector of the 'Troika Drive,' a future new growth engine, utilizing ROBOne's AI waste sorting robot.
As the first project, Korea Zinc installed ROBin at its U.S. affiliate, evTerra's Chicago hub, in November last year, and it is currently in operation. To achieve this, Korea Zinc and evTerra's technical teams collaborated to optimize the ROBin robot.
Additionally, based on accumulated data, Korea Zinc plans to continuously upgrade performance and invest in various robot-related technologies to apply them to other industrial sectors. The company aims to expand the application scope of industrial robots across the entire Troika Drive, not only in resource circulation and existing smelting fields but also to strengthen industrial competitiveness.
