Yangsan-si Achieves Grade 1 in 2024 Regional Safety Index for Living Safety Sector
Yangsan City in Gyeongnam achieved a Grade 1 rating in the living safety category among the six categories (traffic, fire, crime, living safety, suicide, infectious diseases) of the '2024 National Regional Safety Index' announced by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
The infectious disease category also rose to Grade 1, indicating that the overall safety level has improved compared to last year.
The Regional Safety Index, published by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety since 2015, rates safety capabilities such as safety levels and safety awareness by region and category on a scale from 1 to 5, with Grade 1 indicating relatively higher safety.
Notably, Yangsan City is the only one among the eight cities in Gyeongnam Province to receive a Grade 1 in the living safety category, which is closely related to residents' daily lives. This top rating is awarded to the top 10% of 75 cities nationwide, meaning that the living safety of Yangsan citizens is managed safely within the top 7 among the 75 cities in South Korea.
This is analyzed to be the result of Yangsan City's comprehensive safety management system established through close cooperation with related organizations such as the police and fire departments, along with the international safe city certification acquired in November last year, which the city has been pursuing since 2019.
