Ulsan Library to Operate Book Price Refund Program in 2025
Annual Maximum Refund Limit Increased to 6 Books Per Person Starting in 2025
The Ulsan Library will officially launch the '2025 Book Price Refund Project' starting January 7.
The Book Price Refund Project began in 2020 to promote a reading culture and revitalize local bookstores.
The project involves purchasing books with Ulsan Pay at local bookstores, reading them within 4 weeks, and returning the books to participating public libraries in the region to receive a refund of the book price in Ulsan Pay.
Until 2024, applications were accepted for up to 2 books per month per person, with a monthly limit of 40,000 KRW per person and no limit on the price per book.
As a result, in 2024, due to high public interest, a total of 2,380 people participated, returning 3,916 books, leading to an early end in October.
Accordingly, Ulsan City plans to refund up to 2 books per month within 40,000 KRW per person, with an annual total limit of 6 books per person starting in 2025, so that more citizens can benefit evenly.
Also, the Jung-gu Ulsan Jonggatjip Library, which opened in October 2024, has newly joined as a book return location, making it possible to return books at a total of 22 libraries in 2025.
An official from Ulsan Library said, "The Book Price Refund Project, now in its sixth consecutive year, has greatly helped foster a reading culture each year thanks to the high response from citizens and active cooperation from public libraries. With the change in 2025 allowing up to 6 books per person annually, we aim to provide more opportunities for citizens to purchase and read books, and we ask for continued participation."
