Mayor Lee Jae-jun States at New Year Briefing: "Suwon's Future is a High-Tech Science Research City"
Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun defined Suwon's future as an 'Advanced Science Research City.'
At a New Year's briefing held on the 6th in the city hall's mid-sized conference room, Mayor Lee said, "We will actively promote the ‘Suwon R&D Science Park’ and ‘Tapdong Innovation Valley’ projects, which will be the first steps in creating an advanced science research city," adding, "We aim to make Suwon a hub for advanced companies in artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, bio, and other cutting-edge industries."
The mayor also announced a ‘Spatial Transformation’ plan to reorganize the urban spatial structure centered around station areas.
He explained, "We will promote the ‘Suwon-style Station Area Complex Development Activation Project’ centered on railway stations," and "This year, pilot projects will be conducted in the station areas of eight railway stations."
Suwon City established guidelines for the Suwon-style Station Area Complex Development Activation Project last year and will establish a master plan this year. To expedite the project, related ordinances will be enacted and revised.

View original imageThe mayor also emphasized, "The top priority this year is to restore the declining livelihood economy," and added, "We will pour all our efforts into revitalizing the livelihood economy to turn the crisis into an opportunity."
To revitalize neighborhood commercial districts, Suwon City expanded the Suwon Pay recharge limit to 500,000 won and increased the incentive to 10% this year. During the January and October holidays of Seollal and Chuseok, the incentive was raised to 20%. The January incentive budget was exhausted early on the first day of the new year.
Mayor Lee added, "To allow more citizens to receive incentives, we will allocate additional budget and resume the 20% incentive payment from 9 a.m. on the 24th of this month."

In closing, the mayor said, "I pray for the souls of those who perished in the Jeju Air disaster," and "I also offer my deepest condolences to the bereaved families."
