Guro-gu has canceled the New Year's Sunrise event scheduled for January 1 in connection with the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster.
With the government declaring a seven-day national mourning period until midnight on January 4, Guro-gu decided to cancel the 2025 New Year's Sunrise event to mourn those who lost their lives in this tragedy and to share the pain of the bereaved families who lost their loved ones.
Previously, Guro-gu had announced that it would hold a New Year's Sunrise event to welcome the year of Eulsa (乙巳) 2025, where residents would watch the sunrise together and pray for health and happiness throughout the year.

A Guro-gu official said, “We are fully canceling the event to join the national mourning,” adding, “We pray for the repose of the unfortunate victims and sincerely offer our condolences to the bereaved families.”
