Korail Completes Double-Track Construction on Jungang Line... KTX and Other Trains Begin Operation
KTX high-speed train operations have started on the Jungang Line. The Jungang Line is a 433 km railway route that runs from Seoul Cheongnyangni Station through Wonju, Jecheon, Andong, Gyeongju, and Ulsan, ending at Busan Bucheon Station.
On the 20th, Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) announced that the double-track construction of the Jungang Line (total length 433 km) has been completed, and from this day, KTX-Eum and ITX-Ma-eum trains will begin operation.
On this section, KTX-Eum operates six times a day (three times each in both directions), and ITX-Ma-eum operates four times a day (twice each in both directions). The travel time for the section is approximately 3 hours and 56 minutes by KTX and about 5 hours and 40 minutes by ITX.
KORAIL expects that once the signal equipment upgrade work between Andong and Yeongcheon in North Gyeongsang Province is completed by the end of next year, the KTX travel time will be reduced by about 15 minutes, and the number of operations will increase.
On this day, welcome events for Jungang Line users were held at Andong Station, Taehwagang Station, and Bujeon Station. KORAIL distributed souvenirs to KTX-Eum passengers on the Jungang Line and presented bouquets and gifts to the first ticket purchasers.
