On the 18th, Ecopro held the 2nd Ecopro Young Scientist Awards ceremony at the Pohang Campus and announced that Professor Hongkyung Lee of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Yonsei University was selected in the energy field, and Professor Kyoseung Shim of the Department of Chemistry at Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) was selected in the environment field.
The Ecopro Young Scientist Awards were established by Ecopro last year to discover and support young professors who have achieved outstanding research results in the two fields of energy and environment. A total of 32 scientists applied for this year's Young Scientist Awards.
Ecopro selected the awardees through an achievement evaluation that scored papers, academic awards, number of patent registrations, and technology transfer records, as well as a technical evaluation assessing the excellence of the papers and their contribution to the advancement of human technology. The awardees each received a plaque and a prize of 20 million KRW.
Professor Lee, selected as the awardee in the energy field, was highly recognized for his research achievements in next-generation battery materials and application technologies, and lithium metal anode-related research. Professor Shim, the awardee in the environment field, was acknowledged for her research on fully recyclable wearable device components and device technologies, and for being registered as the sole corresponding author in Nature Electronics (a top 1% journal in the electronics field).
Professor Lee said, "I have been steadily conducting research on the intelligence and sustainability of next-generation lithium batteries, and I am honored to receive an award hosted by Ecopro, a leading secondary battery materials company in Korea." Professor Shim expressed her award remarks, saying, "I am pleased to have achieved meaningful results within two years of researching recyclable wearable components, and I plan to further advance my research on recycling based on this award."
Hojoon Song, CEO of Ecopro, said, "We hope the Ecopro Young Scientist Awards will help discover research achievements that contribute to the development of eco-friendly and secondary battery industries through industry-academia cooperation and improve human life."
On the same day as the Young Scientist Awards ceremony, Ecopro also held the '9th Innovation Competition' for its employees. This year's Innovation Competition encouraged the achievements of employees who led innovations such as cost reduction, focusing on manufacturing and office sectors.
A total of eight projects were presented in the finals of this Innovation Competition, with projects on securing manufacturing competitiveness through cost reduction receiving excellent evaluations.
