Police Special Unit Investigates Complainant in 'Yoon Treason' Case
Civil society groups who filed complaints and accusations against President Yoon Seok-yeol and others related to the December 3 emergency martial law incident appeared at the police station and underwent complainant investigations.
The Special Investigation Unit of the National Police Agency's Investigation Headquarters summoned Yang Kyung-soo, chairman of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU), and Lee Ji-hyun, secretary-general of the People's Solidarity for Participatory Democracy, among others, as complainants around 11 a.m. on the 15th.
Chairman Yang stated upon arrival, "I will faithfully testify regarding the unconstitutional behavior that attempted to restrict all union activities such as strikes and assemblies and demonstrations."
Attorney Seo Chae-wan, deputy secretary of the Lawyers for a Democratic Society, representing the complainants, said, "According to the Constitution, President Yoon can be subject to investigation on charges of treason," and added, "His detention should be secured promptly and a forced investigation should be initiated."
Earlier, 59 activists from civil society organizations filed complaints against President Yoon, former Minister of National Defense Kim Yong-hyun, and others on charges including treason and abuse of authority on the day after the martial law, December 4. They also plan to accuse former People Power Party floor leader Choo Kyung-ho as an accomplice. The initially vague accused described as "unknown military and police personnel" have been specified to six individuals, including General Ye In-hyung, commander of the Defense Security Command, and Police Commissioner General Cho Ji-ho.
