The 'Green Bio Venture Campus' was selected by Pohang City in 2022 through a public contest by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, with a total project cost of 35 billion KRW. It is planned to be constructed as a three-story building with a total floor area of 5,700 square meters.
Specialized in the green bio sector, the campus will provide ▲ research equipment and pilot production support equipment ▲ space for company residency ▲ operation of corporate support programs, professionally supporting the growth of green bio venture companies.
Pohang City expects that the groundbreaking of the Green Bio Venture Campus will serve as an important turning point in the government's key policy for the development of the green bio industry.
In particular, it is anticipated to accelerate the innovation and growth of the regional bio industry through linkage with various projects underway in Pohang, such as the establishment of an advanced analysis system for green bio materials and the creation of an industrialization hub for animal green bio pharmaceuticals.
Following the groundbreaking ceremony, the Green Bio Industry Development Council was held to discuss policy directions for the green bio industry with local governments. About 50 participants attended, including Song Mi-ryeong, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs; representatives from five local governments?Gyeongbuk, Gangwon, Jeonbuk, Chungnam, and Gyeongnam; heads of related institutions; academia; and green bio-related companies.
The council, held at the Pohang Knowledge Industry Center, began with an introduction of outstanding green bio companies and product exhibitions. It included the signing of a cooperation MOU among five local governments for the establishment of the Green Bio Venture Campus. The keynote speech on the success story of green bio venture startups by Seo Chung-mo, CEO of Midbar in Pohang and winner of the 2025 CES Innovation Award, deeply resonated with the attendees.
Subsequently, in-depth discussions were held on ▲ achievements and future plans for fostering the green bio industry ▲ on-site difficulties and improvement measures for green bio venture companies ▲ roles of institutions and mid- to long-term strategies for revitalizing venture startups.
