According to the Blue House, President Yoon moved to his Hannam-dong residence after delivering a public apology statement regarding the emergency martial law situation earlier that morning.
A Blue House official told Asia Economy, "President Yoon moved to the residence after the public statement," adding, "He is expected to monitor the impeachment vote results and respond accordingly."
Some aides, including Chief of Staff Jeong Jin-seok, were present at the briefing room during President Yoon's public statement, while senior secretaries and higher-level aides are reportedly busy preparing follow-up responses. Although Chief Jeong and all senior aides tendered their resignations immediately after the martial law situation, they have continued their duties since then.
Tension is running high at the Blue House an hour before the impeachment vote. The Blue House is anxiously awaiting the vote results while closely monitoring the impact of President Yoon's surprise public statement earlier that morning on the People Power Party and public opinion.
A Blue House official said, "Although it is Saturday, due to the gravity of the situation, all Blue House staff have come to the Yongsan office. They are on high alert for the impeachment vote results."
On the same day, the Blue House also stated that President Yoon did not order the arrest of key politicians at the time of the martial law declaration. This appears to be a response to the social repercussions following former National Intelligence Service First Deputy Director Hong Jang-won's remarks during a National Assembly Intelligence Committee meeting, where he said President Yoon told him to "clean everything up."
A Blue House official said, "President Yoon never ordered the arrest of key politicians," and added, "When he spoke to former First Deputy Director Hong about the NIS's counterintelligence authority, it was in the context of dealing with spies."
