Seocho-gu Activates Comprehensive Cold Wave Measures for a Safe Winter
Operation of Comprehensive Cold Wave Response Situation Room until March 15 Next Year
Inspection of Housing Facilities for Vulnerable Groups and Support for Winter Supplies
Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) will implement a "Comprehensive Winter Cold Wave Countermeasure" for four months until March 15 next year to ensure a safe and warm winter.
The district has established a thorough cold wave management system, including the establishment and operation of a cold wave situation management system, operation of resident-friendly cold wave mitigation facilities, protection measures for vulnerable groups during cold waves, winter health care visits, and safety management of cold wave vulnerable facilities.
First, to respond quickly when a winter cold wave warning is issued, a comprehensive cold wave countermeasure situation room will be operated to help residents spend the winter safely and healthily.
Resident-centered cold wave mitigation facilities for public transportation users have also begun operation. These include 38 warmth tents and frost removal glue installations at bus stops and crosswalks, 272 Seoripul ondol chairs, 8 heated village bus stop rails to prevent slipping and falling, and 7 smart eco shelters, providing protection from the cold and safe walking on snowy or rainy days. Additionally, 61 cold wave rest shelters have been prepared for anyone passing by to take a short break.
Protection measures for vulnerable groups during cold waves are also being promoted. Electrical, gas, fire safety, and boiler inspections were conducted in 202 vulnerable households, and outdated facilities have been replaced. For high-risk health groups such as elderly living alone, health status is monitored through visits, phone calls, and text messages. Patrols and street counseling are conducted for the homeless, and in crisis situations, emergency shelter rooms (goshiwon) and protective facility connections will be supported.
Furthermore, heating supplies such as electric blankets and blankets are provided to vulnerable residents exposed to the winter cold, and field workers affiliated with the district are supplied with cold-weather gear such as heated vests to lead the prevention of cold-related illnesses.
