Yangju City Extends 'Yang-Po-Dong Global Textile, Leather, and Fashion Industry Special Zone' for 3 Years

Yangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kang Su-hyun) announced on the 6th that it has received approval from the Ministry of SMEs and Startups to extend the operation period of the “Yangju-Pocheon-Dongducheon Global Textile, Leather, and Fashion Industry Special Zone (hereinafter Yang-Po-Dong Industry Special Zone)” by three years until 2027.

View original imageThe approved Yang-Po-Dong Industry Special Zone project this time includes extending the project period due to the expiration of the designation and reflecting an increase in the project budget due to changes in conditions during the promotion process to ensure continuity of the specialized projects.
Through this special zone extension, the city plans to collaborate with Pocheon City and Dongducheon City to select and operate four specialized projects and 17 detailed projects, including △expansion of industrial infrastructure in the special zone △activation of the global textile, leather, and fashion export market △advancement of textile, leather, and fashion production technologies △strengthening of special zone operation and industrial support functions.
In addition, the extension plan reflects the creation of an ESG environment in aging industrial complexes using renewable energy, the introduction of digital technologies, and other measures to promote the transformation and fostering of the textile, leather, and fashion manufacturing industry into a carbon-neutral, digital-centered, advanced high value-added industry.
Mayor Kang Su-hyun of Yangju said, “Through this special zone project extension, we will spare no support in related fields such as eco-friendly material development and digital transformation to actively respond to the new changes in the textile and fashion industry.” He added, “We will continue to strive to leap forward as the ‘Textile and Fashion Hub City of Northern Gyeonggi’ through active cooperation with Pocheon City and Dongducheon City in operating the Yang-Po-Dong Textile Special Zone.”

View original imageMeanwhile, since its initial designation as a textile special zone in September 2018, the Yang-Po-Dong Industry Special Zone has achieved positive results by promoting specialized projects through mutual cooperation among the three cities, including △job creation △increase in textile and leather exports within the region △establishment and operation of a small business specialized support center.
In particular, Yangju City was the first in Gyeonggi Province to establish digital fashion creative shared equipment (360-degree rotating 3D advanced shooting equipment) within the Gyeonggi Textile Comprehensive Support Center to support the marketing content production environment for textile and fashion companies.

Yangju City also applied regulatory exemptions related to the ‘Outdoor Advertising Act’ to install the “Yang-Po-Dong Global Textile, Leather, and Fashion Industry Special Zone” main signboard, aiming to improve the existing negative image as a military area and underdeveloped region, and has been striving to create a progressive city image through external promotional effects as the center of the domestic textile and fashion industry, thereby ensuring thorough preparation for the journey toward becoming the ‘Textile and Fashion Hub City of Northern Gyeonggi.’
