Damyang-gun Emerges as Agricultural Hub for Strawberry Cultivation Using Robots
ETRI and KITECH Sign MOU for Joint Research on 'AI Robots'
Damyang County signed a business agreement on the 28th with the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Research Headquarters of the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute and the Jeonbuk Technology Commercialization Headquarters of the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology for joint research on agricultural robots.

On the 28th, Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 29th that it had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for joint research on agricultural robots and smart farms with the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Research Headquarters of the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) and the Jeonbuk Technology Commercialization Headquarters of the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH).
The agreement was made with the purpose of advancing Damyang strawberry cultivation technology by utilizing intelligent farms (smart farms) and artificial intelligence (AI) robots in advanced greenhouses responding to climate change, thereby promoting innovation in local agriculture.
According to the agreement, the three organizations will collaborate on operating strawberry smart farms using AI robots, conducting demonstration research, and providing technical support. They aim to develop an integrated greenhouse and robot control system that manages the entire growth cycle of Damyang strawberries. They will also participate in joint research on developing new strawberry varieties suitable for robot use and customized cultivation techniques.

Lee Byeong-no, the mayor of Damyang-gun, emphasized, “This agreement provides an opportunity for Damyang to emerge as a hub of advanced agricultural technology and establishes an efficient agricultural production system utilizing smart farms and AI robots. The three organizations will cooperate to increase agricultural productivity, develop environmentally friendly agricultural models, and lead regional development and sustainable future agriculture.”
