Pyeongtaek City Secures 4.5 Billion KRW in National Funding for 'AI Autonomous Manufacturing Leading Project'
Selected in the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy Contest... Development of Reliability Evaluation Equipment for Secondary Battery Materials
Pyeongtaek City in Gyeonggi Province has secured 4.5 billion KRW in national funding to develop reliability evaluation equipment for secondary battery materials.
On the 29th, Pyeongtaek City announced that it had been selected for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's 'Artificial Intelligence (AI) Autonomous Manufacturing Leading Project' public contest.
This contest aims to advance production through the development of autonomous manufacturing systems incorporating AI technology. The Ministry selected 26 projects targeting 12 key industries, including automobiles and secondary batteries.
Pyeongtaek City was chosen for a project to develop equipment that evaluates the reliability of secondary battery materials. With a total investment of 7.6 billion KRW, including 4.5 billion KRW in national funding secured through this contest, the city plans to develop an 'AI Autonomous Manufacturing System and Process Analysis Equipment' by 2027.
The newly developed equipment will play a role in improving quality by pre-assessing the quality and characteristics of materials based on AI during the continuous manufacturing process of secondary battery cathode materials. The city expects that once the equipment development is completed, secondary battery quality control costs will be reduced by more than 30%.
To develop the equipment, the city plans to form a consortium with the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, Hongik University, Ajou University, System R&D, and Cosmo Advanced Materials.

Jung Jang-seon, mayor of Pyeongtaek City, said, "We participated in this contest to create a robust ecosystem for the future automobile industry," adding, "Going forward, the reduction of defect rates and improvement of productivity through AI-based autonomous manufacturing systems will also enhance the competitiveness of related companies."
