Key figures from the ruling party gathered on the morning of the 26th at the National Seoul National Cemetery in Dongjak-gu, Seoul, for the 45th anniversary memorial service of former President Park Chung-hee.
The memorial service, hosted by the National Revival Association, was attended by the bereaved family including former Yuk Young Foundation Chairwoman Park Geun-ryeong, People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon, floor leader Choo Kyung-ho, and other ruling party leaders, as well as Kim Kwan-yong, Senior Vice Chairman of the National Unification Advisory Council, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Moon-soo, Presidential Office Senior Secretary for Political Affairs Hong Cheol-ho, and former Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn.
Leader Han wrote in the guestbook, "We will inherit that patriotism and spirit of challenge to bring about change and reform." Mayor Oh also left a message of condolence, saying, "We will uphold the legacy of national prosperity and create a brighter future."
After attending the memorial service, Leader Han told reporters, "Former President Park Chung-hee led change and reform with a spirit of challenge and patriotism through initiatives such as medical insurance, value-added tax, the Gyeongbu Expressway, Pohang Steelworks, Soyang Dam, and workers' asset-building savings. Inheriting that spirit, I and our People Power Party will also pursue the path of change and reform."
Floor leader Choo said of former President Park, "He was a leader who freed South Korea from poverty," and pledged, "Inheriting that spirit, we must do more for the people’s livelihood, security, peaceful unification, and above all, the unity and integration of the people."
Park Geun-hye, the eldest daughter and former president, did not attend the memorial service but was reported to have visited the gravesite the day before.

Meanwhile, around the time of the memorial service, some supporters of former President Park shouted insults and raised their voices at Leader Han and Floor Leader Choo, blocking the party leadership.
