Plans to Seek Measures to Enhance Urban-Rural Cooperation Including Future MOUs with Agricultural Institutions
Seoul Metro (President Baek Ho) announced on the 23rd that it conducted volunteer activities by visiting farms in the Gwangmyeong area to help farmers struggling with labor shortages during the harvest season.
About 30 executives and employees participated in the rural labor support volunteer work that day. The staff visited the crop group farms within Gwangmyeong Nonghyup in Gwangmyeong City and carried out environmental cleanup activities such as weeding around vinyl greenhouses.
This rural labor support was carried out in collaboration with the Community Contribution Department of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation (Nonghyup Central Association) and targeted farms that requested labor support from the federation.
Seoul Metro has been continuously conducting rural support activities every year for the mutual development of urban and rural areas. Last year, it helped with apple picking and collecting waste vinyl at farms in Yanggu-gun, Gangwon-do, and also donated funds to support vulnerable rural groups such as elderly seniors in need of care.
Since June this year, Seoul Metro has been working to increase farm income by transforming some stores in subway stations with high foot traffic into socially contributive stores and operating the S-Metrocal Market, which sells excellent local agricultural and marine products. Seoul Metro plans to seek more practical support measures, such as promoting business agreements with specialized agricultural institutions, to expand the scope of urban-rural cooperation.
