Show Host Yoon Nanhee Returns to Broadcasting After a Year and a Half
Resumes Activities on Lotte Homeshopping
Show host Yoon Nanhee, who had suspended her activities amid controversy over disparaging remarks about the deceased, has returned through a new channel.
According to industry sources on the 23rd, Yoon has appeared as a guest on Lotte Homeshopping since the beginning of this month, selling fashion products. The show airs every Tuesday at 8 a.m., and a total of three broadcasts have taken place so far. A representative from Lotte Homeshopping explained, "Yoon is participating as a guest once a week at the continuous request of our small and medium-sized fashion product partners." She is expected to sell only fashion products, not beauty items, which had previously been associated with controversy. It was also reported that she accepted the condition that her first broadcast upon returning would be conducted as a charitable donation.
Previously, in February last year, Yoon sparked controversy during a CJ OnStyle home shopping broadcast while selling cosmetics, when she mentioned a famous comedienne who had passed away. While introducing the cosmetics, she commented, "I was reminded of a certain female comedian," and added, "She struggled with skin problems, so I think she would have liked to know about this product," which drew heavy criticism. In response, CJ OnStyle imposed an indefinite suspension on her appearances.
Additionally, viewers who watched the broadcast filed complaints with the Korea Communications Standards Commission over Yoon's inappropriate remarks. One complainant stated, "Yoon's comments reminded viewers of a comedienne who ended her life due to worsening skin disease," and added, "She expressed regret by saying, 'If only she had known about this product,' but crossed the line by invoking a family's misfortune without any clinical evidence." As a result, the commission deemed the broadcast to have violated the 'Regulations on the Review of Product Introduction and Sales Broadcasts' and issued a formal warning, which is a legal sanction. Following the incident, Yoon posted an apology, saying, "I sincerely apologize for causing pain by reminding people of someone," and added, "I will be more careful with my words and strive to become a more humble person."
