Embezzlement Allegations in the Course of Duty
A police officer accused of embezzling seized items worth 150 million won during a voice phishing crime investigation has been handed over to the prosecution while in custody.
On the 23rd, Yongsan Police Station in Seoul announced that Officer A, belonging to the Criminal Division, who is accused of embezzling money and valuables seized during a voice phishing investigation, was sent to prosecution in custody on charges of embezzlement in the course of duty.
The police applied for an arrest warrant for the officer on the 18th, and the court issued the warrant the next day, the 19th, citing concerns of evidence destruction and flight risk.
Meanwhile, recently, Officer B from the Crime Prevention Response Division of Gangnam Police Station in Seoul was also arrested on charges of embezzlement and theft in the course of duty for diverting about 300 million won in cash seized from illegal gambling cases.
