Samcheok City, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Mayor Park Sang-su) announced on the 14th that it will suspend operations for the entire month of November to conduct intensive maintenance on the Samcheok Marine Rail Bike, a representative tourist attraction of Samcheok City.

This maintenance includes comprehensive facility repairs such as replacing the worn-out sleepers installed on the marine rail bike tracks and conducting safety inspections of facilities in three tunnel sections. Operations are planned to resume normally from December 1.
During the maintenance period, riding the rail bike will not be possible, and the reservation system on the official Marine Rail Bike website will also be suspended. However, other tourist attractions such as the Marine Cable Car, Chogok Yonggul Chotdaebawi Trail, Hwang Young-jo Memorial Park, Haesindang Park, and Surobuin Heonhwa Park will operate normally.
Jin Bu-chang, Director of the Samcheok Marine Tourism Center, said, “Through this intensive maintenance of the 2024 Marine Rail Bike, we will refurbish the facilities to ensure that tourists visiting Samcheok can enjoy a safe and accident-free experience.”

Meanwhile, the Samcheok Marine Rail Bike, which opened in 2010, operates on a 5.4 km railway section connecting Gungchon to Yonghwa in Geundeok-myeon, Samcheok City. Since its opening until the end of September 2024, it has become a representative tourist attraction of Samcheok City, with approximately 5 million visitors.
