The Companion Dog Patrol consists of pet owners and their dogs who walk together and report any hazards they discover.
They report people in danger such as missing persons or intoxicated individuals, as well as issues like damaged fences or blocked drainage. They also plan to conduct joint patrols and campaign activities with related departments and agencies.
Suwon City will pilot the Companion Dog Patrol in Jangan-gu until December this year and plans to expand the program in 2025.
Earlier in August, Suwon City recruited registered pet owners to participate in the Companion Dog Patrol and selected 43 teams after document screening.
At the launch ceremony, Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun said, "A safe society can be achieved through citizen participation," and urged, "Please take an extra look if you find hazards such as streetlights that are off or broken pavement blocks on walking paths, or neighbors in difficulty like lost elderly people."
