'Arrest Warrant Requested for Maserati Driver in Gwangju Hit-and-Run Fatality'
The police investigating the 'Maserati hit-and-run fatal accident' in Gwangju have applied for arrest warrants for the driver at fault and an accomplice who aided in the escape.
Officials from the National Forensic Service are conducting a detailed examination of the Maserati involved in the 'drunk hit-and-run fatal accident' at the Gwangju Seobu Police Station.
View original imageOn the 28th, the Gwangju Seobu Police Station applied for arrest warrants for Mr. A, a man in his 30s who was driving the Maserati, and Mr. B, who helped him escape, on charges of hit-and-run causing death or injury while driving (violation of the Act on Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes) and aiding a criminal, respectively.
Mr. A caused a fatal accident on the morning of the 24th by rear-ending a motorcycle ahead on a road in Hwajeong-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju. He was driving a Maserati registered under a corporation based in Seoul. Two motorcycle riders in their 20s, who were in a romantic relationship, were seriously injured and transported to the hospital by fire authorities, but one of them died. After the accident, Mr. A fled to Daejeon, Incheon, and Seoul with the help of acquaintances but was caught by the police two days later during the pursuit.

The police also urgently arrested Mr. B, who was with Mr. A at the time. Mr. B is suspected of assisting the escape by providing burner phones and other means. The pre-arrest suspect interrogation (warrant hearing) for them will be held this afternoon at the Gwangju District Court.
