Seongjusa, a representative traditional temple in Changwon, held the opening ceremony for the 'Templestay Hall (Haehaengdang)' on the 26th.

View original imageOn this day, Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam announced that about 200 people participated in the event, including Daewoo, Secretary General of the Korean Buddhist Cultural Foundation, Daebang, Director of General Affairs at Beomeosa, the head temple of the 14th district of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, Kangha, Director of Planning, Dohong, Chief Monk of Bulgoksa, Seonguk, Head of the Gyeongnam Religious Affairs Department of the Taego Order, Woncheuk, Literary Monk of Seohaemun, Wonjeong, Chairman of the Hangaram Foundation, Hyejin, former Chief Monk of Eunhasa, Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, Son Tae-hwa, Chairman of Changwon City Council, Kim Myeong-ju, Vice Governor for Economic Affairs of Gyeongsangnam-do, and Seongjusa devotees.
The newly opened Seongjusa Templestay Hall is a two-story building with a site area of 740㎡ and a total floor area of 492.91㎡, accommodating about 60 people per day. It is expected that an additional 10,000 visitors will come each year, in addition to the existing Templestay participants.
The Templestay Hall will serve as a space where anyone, regardless of nationality, ethnicity, or cultural differences, can escape the busy routine, empty their mind, rest their thoughts, and heal their weary bodies through various programs. It will be open to families, students, companies, multicultural groups, migrant workers, university clubs, and workshops, welcoming both domestic and international visitors.
Chief Monk Beob-an stated, "For the many domestic and international visitors to Seongjusa, we will provide a convenient space for experiencing and practicing at a traditional temple, making it a joyful journey to discover the true essence of Korea. We aim to contribute to enhancing the image of Changwon as a tourist city by serving as a valuable tourism resource."
Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, said in his congratulatory speech, "With the opening of Haehaengdang, the thousand-year-old Seongjusa will be reborn as a landmark in Changwon where more domestic and international visitors can experience the traditional culture of Korean Buddhism and purify their bodies and minds."
Meanwhile, Seongjusa is a thousand-year-old temple, founded in the 2nd year of King Heungdeok, the 42nd monarch of Silla (827), and is a traditional temple that houses three nationally designated treasures and nine provincial cultural assets.
