Cardiac Arrest in 30s Woman During Chuseok Holiday... Higher-Level Hospital Refusal Leads to Death
Busan-Gyeongnam General Hospitals All Reject
It was recently revealed that a woman in her 30s who was transported to a general hospital emergency room during the recent Chuseok holiday died after no higher-level hospital capable of admitting the patient could be found.
According to the Busan Fire and Disaster Headquarters on the 20th, at around 2:15 a.m. on the 17th, a report was received by 119 that a woman in her 30s, Ms. A, was experiencing body convulsions and vomiting at a residence in Yeongdo-gu, Busan.
Firefighters who responded to the call provided emergency treatment to Ms. A at the scene. Subsequently, at around 3:04 a.m., she was transported to the emergency room of Haedong Hospital, a nearby secondary hospital. The medical staff at this hospital performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on Ms. A, who was in cardiac arrest upon arrival. They also inquired several times with higher-level general hospitals in Busan and Gyeongnam to see if Ms. A could be admitted, but all refused.
During this process, it is known that Ms. A’s condition fluctuated between cardiac arrest and resuscitation. Ultimately, Ms. A was not transferred to a university hospital and passed away approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes after arriving at the emergency room, around 6:40 a.m. that day.
Meanwhile, the government emphasized that there were no major disruptions to emergency medical services during the Chuseok holiday.
