Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Wolsong Nuclear Power Headquarters conducted a full-scale physical protection drill on the 3rd.
View original imageThis drill was carried out to respond to an intrusion by six simulated intruders and four drones, with observers from related organizations (Marine Corps 1st Division, Gyeongju Police Station), the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission, and KAINAC (Control Technology Institute) in attendance.
The exercise began with the protection alert phase and simulated a scenario where an RF scanner detected a drone intrusion, six simulated intruders breached and cut through the fence in the protected area, were discovered by staff, and were subsequently neutralized by the rapid response team after an engagement.
In a realistic scenario, two large drones equipped with explosives and two small drones were deployed, and the drill concluded with the apprehension of the operators.
Kim Hanseong, Head of Wolsong Headquarters, stated, "This drill was highly meaningful as it allowed us to verify our response capabilities through realistic training, such as actual fence cutting and drone jamming."
For future drills, more detailed scenarios will be developed to prepare for advanced equipment, and continuous cooperation with related agencies will be maintained.
