MFDS Focuses on Rapid Response to Food Poisoning and Management of Digital Medical Devices
Emphasizes Prevention Education on Drug Abuse Among Adolescents
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced on the 29th that it has allocated a budget of 748.9 billion KRW for next year, which is 4.3% more than this year's 718.2 billion KRW. The Ministry explained that the related budget was focused on to steadily carry out the national tasks of 'creating safe food and biohealth innovation growth' and the newly added 'strengthening customized safety support considering the regulatory environment.'
First, a total of 179.8 billion KRW will be invested in the field of creating safe food and a healthy dietary environment. Among them, 9.3 billion KRW will be allocated for the prevention and management of food poisoning. The Ministry plans to additionally deploy mobile rapid food poisoning inspection vehicles operated for quick cause identification and on-site response in case of food poisoning in the Gyeongin area. Old vehicles in the Seoul area will also be replaced to establish a rapid inspection and response system by region nationwide.
80 billion KRW has been allocated for the safety management of imported foods. There is a plan to expand purchase inspections of overseas direct purchase foods suspected of containing harmful substances to the human body, such as pharmaceuticals and narcotic ingredients.
1.832 trillion KRW has been allocated for expanding the foundation for bio and digital health safety and innovation growth. In particular, 9 billion KRW has been assigned for narcotics safety management, and 16.5 billion KRW will be invested to support the Narcotics Eradication Movement Headquarters. The target for narcotics abuse prevention education will be expanded to about 2.15 million students, which is 40% of the 5.27 million elementary, middle, and high school students nationwide. In addition, customized narcotics promotional content for youth will be produced to eradicate youth drug addiction.
22 billion KRW has been newly allocated to strengthen the safety management of digital medical products. The Ministry explained, "We will develop safety and efficacy evaluation standards suitable for the characteristics of digital products and designate and operate an agency to perform certification tasks."
Along with this, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety allocated 121.6 billion KRW to strengthen customized food and drug safety support considering the regulatory environment. By item, 2.1 billion KRW was allocated to strengthen cosmetics safety management in the field of customized food and drug safety support considering the regulatory environment. To establish a domestic foundation for the introduction of cosmetics safety evaluation systems implemented in Europe and other regions, consulting for small and medium-sized enterprises will be conducted. In the field of establishing a proactive food and drug safety management system for future preparedness, 300 million KRW was newly allocated to build an automated approval review system for pharmaceuticals and others.

In addition, 79.1 billion KRW was allocated for the field of establishing a proactive food and drug safety management system for future preparedness. Among them, 18.3 billion KRW will be invested to strengthen laboratory testing capabilities. The plan is to enhance the accuracy and credibility of test analysis results by expanding validation (calibration) and regular preventive inspections of precision analysis equipment and basic measuring instruments.
