Selected Creative Work Combining Buncheong Ware with Digital Technology

First Showcase at September's "National Heritage Media Art Goheung Buncheong Ware Site"

Jeonnam Goheung-gun (Governor Gong Young-min) Buncheong Culture Museum announced on the 26th that six works were finally selected as winners in the general category of the ‘2024 Goheung Buncheong Ware Site Media Art Contest.’

This contest was held to recruit experimental works that reinterpret Buncheong ware, a representative national heritage of Goheung, with an attractive and modern artistic sensibility, and to secure content to be screened at the ‘2024 National Heritage Media Art Goheung Buncheong Ware Site’ event to be held in September.

As a result of judging 25 works submitted from June 3 to July 31, six works were finally selected after two rounds of evaluation considering theme suitability, artistry, technical capability, popularity, and feasibility.

The grand prize-winning work is Choo Ho-seung’s generative media art piece , in which images respond and change according to sound. This work clearly intends to visually express the history of Buncheong ware and the passage of time, and it was praised for excellently combining media art and Buncheong ware through music composed by the artist himself.

The excellence award went to Seo Chang-hee’s , which excellently reveals the seven production techniques of Buncheong ware, and the merit award was given to Kim Kyung-rae’s , which expresses the spirit of Buncheong ware and potters using generative artificial intelligence.

The judges commented in their final review, “This contest received works interpreting Goheung Buncheong ware in various ways, and especially selected works that stood out for their creativity and artistry.”

The final selected works will be presented as media art pieces to visitors at the ‘2024 National Heritage Media Art Goheung Buncheong Ware Site,’ which opens with a pre-event on September 12.

A county official said, “The winning works of this contest will provide special visual enjoyment and artistic inspiration to viewers of all ages, and they are examples showing new possibilities for Goheung’s national heritage, Buncheong ware. We will continue to pursue new artistic attempts by integrating modern technology with Goheung Buncheong ware and make various efforts to expand opportunities for cultural enjoyment.”
