Gyeonggi-do Conducts 'Emergency Safety Inspections' on 111 Aged Steeples Over 30 Years Old
Gyeonggi Province will conduct safety inspections on 111 ‘small-scale aged steeples’ that pose accident risks during strong winds or typhoons by the end of September.
This inspection targets aged steeples over 30 years old and under 8 meters in height. The inspections will be carried out jointly with 10 cities and counties, including Suwon, and experts. Inspection items include facility shaking, the condition of support structure installations, and the state of major structural member joints.
Gyeonggi Province will immediately implement safety measures on-site for any identified risks, and for issues that cannot be addressed immediately, administrative actions such as correction orders will be taken.
Previously, last year, Gyeonggi Province conducted safety inspections on 855 steeples over 8 meters in height together with cities and counties, pointing out issues such as insufficient corrosion treatment and poor finishing materials. This year, a joint inspection by Gyeonggi Province, cities and counties, and experts was conducted to verify whether corrective actions were taken on the previously identified steeples.
