First Case of Mutant Emfox Infection Confirmed in Thailand
On the 22nd, major foreign media including AFP reported that the first case of a mutated Mpox (MPOX) patient has occurred in Thailand.
According to the report, the Thailand Department of Disease Control (DDC) announced that after conducting a detailed examination of a man in his 60s from Europe who entered from Africa, he was found to be infected with a new mutated Mpox 'sublineage (Clade) 1b' type.
The patient entered Thailand on the 14th and reportedly showed symptoms of Mpox the following day. So far, 43 people who had close contact with the patient have not shown any symptoms.

Mpox type 1b is known to have higher transmissibility and fatality rates compared to the previously prevalent type 2. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared an 'International Public Health Emergency' on the 14th as Mpox type 2 cases increased internationally, raising the highest level of health alert.
