Graduate Student Given Suspended Prison Sentence for Sharing 'Daema Jelly' with Acquaintance
Sentenced to 2 Years Imprisonment with 3 Years Probation
A graduate student in his 20s who was prosecuted for handing out jelly containing cannabis ingredients to acquaintances was sentenced to a suspended prison term in the first trial.
On the 21st, Judge Lee Ho-dong of the Criminal Division 3 at the Seoul Eastern District Court sentenced Oh Mo (26), who was indicted for violating the Narcotics Control Act, to 2 years in prison with a 3-year suspension and ordered him to attend 40 hours of drug treatment lectures.
The court explained the sentencing reason, saying, "Oh handed over cannabis jelly received from an unidentified foreigner to acquaintances, which resulted in not only the acquaintances but also third parties consuming it. However, we took into consideration that Oh admitted to the crime and has no prior record of punishment."
Oh is accused of receiving 20 cannabis-containing jellies from an unidentified foreign man near a club in Mapo-gu, Seoul, around December last year, consuming some of them, and providing some to acquaintances in March this year.

Yu Mo (31), who was arrested and indicted for redistributing the cannabis jelly received from Oh to three university classmates, was sentenced last month in the first trial to 1 year and 6 months in prison with a 3-year suspension.
