Police Request Autopsy of Corpse from National Forensic Service
A biological mother who abandoned her newborn baby at a reservoir in Sejong City turned herself in to the police.
On the 19th, 'Yonhap News' reported that the Sejong Northern Police Station is investigating a woman in her 20s, identified as A, on charges of corpse abandonment.
A is accused of abandoning an infant, with the umbilical cord and placenta still attached, at a reservoir in Jochiwon-eup, Sejong City. Earlier, on the 15th at around 6:30 PM, a citizen discovered the body floating in the water at the reservoir and reported it to the police, which led to the revelation of A's crime.
At the time of discovery, the infant's body showed no external injuries and was reported to be in a state just before decomposition began. After the incident was reported by various media outlets, A eventually expressed her intention to surrender to the police.
During the police investigation, she stated, "My water broke earlier than the expected delivery date, so I gave birth alone at home, but the baby was not breathing after birth, so I got scared and abandoned the baby at the reservoir." A is unmarried, unemployed, and reportedly lives alone at home.

The police have requested an autopsy from the National Forensic Service and plan to determine the time of the infant's death based on the autopsy results and other evidence.
