Collision Accident Occurs During Track Work
Two maintenance vehicles inspecting and repairing railway tracks collided, resulting in the deaths of two employees of Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL).
On the 9th, 'Yonhap News' reported that at around 2:14 a.m., a collision between maintenance vehicles occurred at Guro Station on Seoul Subway Line 1, killing two workers and injuring one. At the time of the accident, the workers were on an electric motorcar work platform performing insulation structure replacement work. The accident reportedly happened when the work platform came into contact with a track inspection train traveling on the adjacent track.
Two employees in their 30s died in the accident, and one employee in their 40s suffered a broken leg and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. All the victims were confirmed to be KORAIL employees.
KORAIL has established an on-site accident response headquarters at the scene and is investigating the exact circumstances of the accident together with the police. The Ministry of Employment and Labor plans to review the applicability of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act in relation to this accident.
KORAIL expressed regret over the accident and emphasized that it will conduct funerals and follow-up measures for the deceased employees with the utmost respect. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport also dispatched an initial response team to the site and plans to prepare measures to prevent similar accidents from recurring.

Meanwhile, due to accident recovery work, 10 commuter trains on the Gyeongbu Line and 5 high-speed trains were delayed by about 10 to 30 minutes until around 5:40 a.m. that day. However, it has been reported that train operations are currently not affected.
