Gwanak-gu Provides Housing for Young Entrepreneurs Taking on Startup Challenges
Additional Recruitment of 13 Public Rental Housing Units (Dojeonsuk) for Young Entrepreneurs in the Region Until the 16th
Providing Work and Living Spaces to Support Young Entrepreneurs' Success
Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) is providing stable housing to help young entrepreneurs establish a foundation for business growth and succeed in their startups.
“Dojeonsuk” means “a lodging for those who challenge,” and it is a demand-tailored public rental housing that allows young entrepreneurs (including prospective entrepreneurs) to solve both residential and office space needs at once.
To support the independence and growth of young entrepreneurs with weak economic foundations, Gwanak-gu and Seoul Housing & Communities Corporation (SH) signed a business agreement and have been supplying these units since last year. It has gained popularity as young people can save significantly on housing costs.
This year, the district will additionally supply a total of 13 vacant housing units to young entrepreneurs (one-person creative business owners, prospective entrepreneurs, social entrepreneurs, village entrepreneurs) from October 5 to 16.
Applicants must be young entrepreneurs aged 19 to 39 who have an office in Gwanak-gu as of the announcement date of the tenant recruitment or can relocate their office to Gwanak-gu within three months after selection. Prospective entrepreneurs must submit a business plan.
The income criteria require meeting the standard of a single-person household without a home, with income at or below 70% of the previous year’s average monthly urban worker income.
The announcement of successful applicants is scheduled for October 14, and winners can move in from the end of November after signing a lease contract with Seoul Housing & Communities Corporation (SH).
The district expects that, since the rent is cheaper than general rental housing market prices, it will reduce the initial financial burden on young entrepreneurs with weak foundations for independence.
Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “With this supply of Dojeonsuk, many young people will have the opportunity to build a foundation for independence and growth,” adding, “We will continue to actively support Gwanak-gu until it becomes a mecca for venture startups.”
