Jeonnam Province Urgently Allocates 1.8 Billion Won to Support Summer Seafood Consumption Promotion
Jeonnam Province announced on the 1st that it will urgently inject a budget of 1.8 billion KRW to prepare for natural disasters caused by high summer water temperatures and to support fishing households struggling due to sluggish seafood consumption.
This summer, water temperatures are expected to be 1℃ higher than average, with high temperatures above 28℃ persisting for more than a month, raising concerns about damage to seafood vulnerable to high temperatures such as abalone and rockfish.
Accordingly, Jeonnam Province plans to urgently allocate 1 billion KRW from contingency funds to support processing and distribution costs, and provide seafood to consumers at production site prices through online and offline sales channels to resolve the backlog of over 200 tons of seafood at production sites.
Additionally, using 800 million KRW secured through selection in the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries’ public contest project, the province will supply boiled abalone to school meals within the province and provide seafood packages to 6,000 vulnerable households.
By operating the Seoul-Jeonnam Win-Win Cooperation Donghaeng Sanghoe pop-up store, the excellence of Jeonnam seafood will be promoted to consumers in the metropolitan area, and a campaign to purchase abalone will be conducted targeting the Jeonnam Provincial Government Employees’ Union and public officials nationwide.
Furthermore, an event will be held at Namdo Jangteo, Jeonnam’s representative agricultural and marine products shopping mall, where Jeonnam seafood can be purchased at a 30% discount.
