[One Day Walk] The Site of Daebudo Mudflat Experience... Ansan 50 Course
16.9km from Ansan Namdong Health Clinic to Saebangjuk Bangjoje
The Ansan 50 Course of the Gyeonggi Dullegil Trail starts at the Ansan Namdong Health Clinic, passes by Hongseong-ri Ferry Terminal, and continues to Saebangjuk Embankment, covering a distance of 16.9 km. The most frequently seen scenery along this path is the mudflat. When the tide recedes, the mudflat is revealed. Enjoying this unique natural heritage found on the west coast while walking is one of the pleasures this trail offers.
At the starting point, there is a modest square pavilion. Standing in front of this pavilion, you can see the vast mudflat. This is the ‘Goraetburi Mudflat,’ designated as a national wetland protection area. The mudflats of Daebu Island, including this site and the Sangdong Mudflat, cover a total area of 4.53 km². In accordance with the Wetland Conservation Act, it was designated as a coastal wetland protection area in 2017. Recognized for its importance as a stopover for endangered migratory birds, it became a Ramsar Wetland Protection Area in 2018.
The migratory birds that use this mudflat as a stopover include the yellow-billed egret, common kestrel, black-headed gull, and bar-tailed godwit. Their food source is benthic animals living in the mudflat. Approximately 104 species of benthic animals inhabit the mudflats of Daebu Island, with the white-footed fiddler crab being a representative species. Various experiences are also available in the mudflats of Daebu Island. Families can directly catch marine creatures such as surf clams, Manila clams, conchs, sea snails, octopuses, and spoon worms.
Walking along the mudflat, you pass Daenam Elementary School surrounded by pine trees. The scenery where the sea and pine trees blend is refreshingly beautiful. Next, you encounter a beach path where Korean rose (Hibiscus syriacus) blooms beautifully.
Along this path, you will come across islands with interesting names, such as Mechuri Island and Jjokbak Island. After passing the entrance to Mechuri Island, you can see Jjokbak Island. Jjokbak Island is a small rocky island separated at the western end of the Bulgulsan mountain range coastline. It is named because its shape resembles a traditional Korean wooden rice container called a jjokbak. The sunset viewed from this island, where pine trees grow, is famous for its beauty.
