A thief who broke into a hotel in India made headlines after, finding nothing worth stealing, he picked up a water bottle and left money behind.
On the 28th (local time), local media including The Times of India reported that a thief broke into a hotel in Telangana, located in south-central India, on the 18th. The thief’s actions were fully captured on the hotel’s closed-circuit television (CCTV). In the footage, a man with his face covered by a hat and towel enters the hotel kitchen and looks around for something to steal. However, after searching thoroughly and finding no cash or valuables, the man appears displeased and gestures angrily toward the CCTV camera.

Despite not giving up, the thief continued searching the kitchen but found nothing to steal. Resigned, he took a water bottle from the refrigerator. Then, looking back at the CCTV, he mocked the hotel by saying, "How is there no money at all?" After that, the thief took a wallet from his back pocket, placed 20 rupees (about 330 won) on the table, and left the hotel.

View original imageAlthough the CCTV footage was recorded at the time of the crime, the hotel only became aware of the incident a week later and belatedly reported it to the police. Local police stated that the man is likely a habitual thief and that they are tracking him.
