Malicious Complaints So Severe... Jongno-gu Introduces 'Wearable Cameras' for Parking Enforcement Officers
Worn as a Name Tag, Press Button in Emergency to Record Audio and Video
Jongno-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jeong Munheon) announced on the 31st that it will introduce portable protective equipment called ‘wearable cams’ starting from the 1st of next month to protect parking enforcement officers from malicious complainants.
The ‘wearable cam,’ a name tag-shaped camera, is normally worn as a name tag, but when a dispute or unpleasant situation arises with a complainant, pressing a button activates the recording and filming functions.
Jongno-gu will first distribute wearable cams to on-site enforcement officers to protect them from various illegal acts such as verbal abuse and assault by complainants that may occur during enforcement. Additional devices will be introduced later in the enforcement control room and civil service offices.
Meanwhile, training on the use of the devices will be conducted to prevent infringement of complainants’ rights. By educating on the procedures for operating the protective equipment that informs about recording and filming before and after, the aim is to protect complainants’ personal information and prevent disadvantages.
Jongno-gu expects that the introduction of wearable cams will not only protect public officials but also contribute to fair complaint handling based on law and principles.
