Election of Lee Byung-yoon as Chair of the Seoul Metropolitan Council Transportation Committee

On the 29th, the Seoul Metropolitan Council held the 325th extraordinary session plenary meeting to organize the second half of the 11th term and elect the standing committee chairpersons. During this session, Assemblyman Lee Byung-yoon (People Power Party, Dongdaemun-gu District 1) was elected as the Chair of the Transportation Committee.
Newly appointed Transportation Committee Chair Lee Byung-yoon is a three-term assemblyman of the 4th, 5th, and 6th Dongdaemun District Council and previously served as the Chair of the 6th Dongdaemun District Council in the first half of the term. He also served as the Vice Chair of the Transportation Committee of the 11th Seoul Metropolitan Council in the first half, Chair of the Special Committee for Personnel Hearings of the Seoul Transportation Corporation President candidates, and a member of the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts. With his extensive experience and expertise in Seoul’s transportation sector, he is expected to actively engage in legislative activities related to transportation in Seoul going forward.
Chair Lee Byung-yoon stated, “As the Chair of the Transportation Committee for the second half of the 11th Seoul Metropolitan Council, I will listen carefully to the opinions of fellow assembly members and communicate openly. I will especially work hard to ensure sustainable and safe transportation in Seoul and to improve transportation services.”
He further expressed his aspirations, saying, “I will thoroughly examine the pressing local transportation issues in Seoul and strive to resolve problems such as strengthening the public nature of the semi-public bus system, alleviating deficits of the Seoul Transportation Corporation, improving subway congestion, and enhancing the operation of mobility services for the disabled, so that citizens can trust and use the transportation environment with confidence.”
The Seoul Metropolitan Council Transportation Committee held its first standing committee meeting at 4 p.m. on the same day during the 325th extraordinary session and appointed Assemblywoman Lee Kyung-sook (People Power Party, Dobong-gu District 1) and Assemblyman Kim Sung-jun (Democratic Party, Geumcheon-gu District 1) as vice chairs.
Vice Chair Lee Kyung-sook (People Power Party, Dobong 1) is a four-term assemblywoman of the Dobong District Council (5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th terms) and has served on the 11th Seoul Metropolitan Council’s Transportation Committee, Operations Committee, Special Committee on Budget and Accounts, and the Special Committee for the Realization of Undergrounding the Aboveground Railway.
Vice Chair Lee is a local politician who has continuous interest in transportation and knows the issues of Dobong-gu better than anyone else. Her appointment as vice chair of the Transportation Committee is expected to play an important role in solving Seoul’s transportation problems.
Vice Chair Lee Kyung-sook said, “I am grateful to my fellow assembly members for electing me as vice chair of the Seoul Metropolitan Council Transportation Committee. I will carefully review not only local issues but also problems related to Seoul’s transportation policies and do my best for the development of Seoul’s transportation.”
Vice Chair Kim Sung-jun (Democratic Party, Geumcheon 1) served as vice chair of the Transportation Committee, member of the Operations Committee, member of the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts, and spokesperson for the Democratic Party Seoul Metropolitan Chapter during the first half of the 11th term. He was reappointed as vice chair of the Transportation Committee for the second half.
Vice Chair Kim actively addressed inconveniences faced by citizens through sharp insights and attention to issues such as amendments to ordinances related to public transportation and revitalization of the Seoul Transportation Corporation’s organization while serving as vice chair of the Transportation Committee in the first half of the 11th term.
Vice Chair Kim Sung-jun stated, “I will faithfully serve as a bridge among the Transportation Committee members while acting as vice chair of the Seoul Metropolitan Council Transportation Committee. I will pay more attention to improving Seoul’s transportation and work to resolve problems.”

The second half of the 11th Transportation Committee was finalized through the plenary resolution on the 29th, consisting of Chair Lee Byung-yoon and members Lee Kyung-sook (People Power Party, Dobong 1), Kim Sung-jun (Democratic Party, Geumcheon 1), Gyeong Gi-mun (People Power Party, Gangseo 6), Kwak Hyang-gi (People Power Party, Dongjak 3), Kim Won-jung (People Power Party, Seongbuk 2), Kim Ji-hyang (People Power Party, Yeongdeungpo 4), Moon Sung-ho (People Power Party, Seodaemun 2), Yoon Ki-seop (People Power Party, Nowon 5), Yoon Young-hee (People Power Party, Proportional Representation), Song Do-ho (Democratic Party, Gwanak 1), Lee Won-hyung (Democratic Party, Proportional Representation), and Jeong Jun-ho (Democratic Party, Eunpyeong 4).
