KCSC Digital Sex Crime Correction Requests Summary

Sexual deepfake videos exploiting artificial intelligence (AI) deepfake technology have surged by 84% compared to the previous year.
On the 18th, the Korea Communications Standards Commission (KCSC) announced that the number of correction requests for sexual deepfake videos?where obscene images or videos are synthesized and distributed on a person's face?reached 6,071 in the first half of this year, marking an 84% increase compared to the same period last year.
Correction requests for sexual deepfake videos have nearly doubled annually since 2021. The KCSC explained that such videos target not only famous celebrities but also ordinary individuals.
In the first half of this year, a total of 35,737 correction requests related to digital sex crimes were recorded, including △illegal filming 29,560 cases △sexual deepfake videos 6,071 cases △sexual portrait rights 61 cases △victim identity disclosure 45 cases.
Correction requests related to illegal filming?such as revenge sexual exploitation videos distributed after breakups between couples and secretly filmed videos of others' bodies in public places?accounted for the largest share at 82%.
The KCSC stated, "Recently, multiple incidents involving the distribution of deepfake composites targeting teenagers have occurred, expanding the scope of harm caused by sexual deepfake videos. We will continue focused monitoring of SNS platforms to minimize damage caused by sexual deepfake videos."
The KCSC operates a situation room 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, directly receiving and monitoring reports from victims and support organizations. Electronic reviews are held daily to issue correction requests for digital sex crime information within 24 hours.
