Severe Landslide Warning Issued for Seoul Metropolitan Area and Gangwon-do
Korea Forest Service Issues Upgraded Warning Following Continuous Heavy Rainfall
The Korea Forest Service raised the landslide risk alert level to the highest stage, 'Severe,' for the Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi, and Gangwon regions in the metropolitan area as of 7:30 a.m. on the 18th. The alert level for Daejeon, Sejong, and Jeonbuk regions was also raised to the 'Caution' stage.
On the 10th, due to heavy rain, a landslide occurred behind an apartment in Seongsan-myeon, Gunsan-si, Jeonbuk, causing soil and trees to be swept down and cover the area.

The Korea Forest Service upgraded the landslide risk alert for the central region after holding a situation assessment meeting, as heavy rain was forecast mainly for the central region until the afternoon. The landslide risk alert is divided into four stages: ▲Interest ▲Caution ▲Warning ▲Severe.
Currently, Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi, and Gangwon regions are at the 'Severe' stage; Daejeon, Sejong, Chungnam, Chungbuk, Gyeongbuk, and Jeonbuk are at the 'Warning' stage; and Busan, Daegu, Gwangju, Ulsan, Jeonnam, Gyeongnam, and Jeju are at the 'Caution' stage.

Im Sang-seop, head of the Korea Forest Service, said, "Since heavy rain increases the risk of landslides, active response is necessary," adding, "Please pay attention to emergency disaster messages and village broadcasts, and in case of emergency, evacuate quickly to safe places such as village halls and schools."
