The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education will sign a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) for the stable operation of the IB program at 10:30 a.m. on the 12th at Hotel Geumosan in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province. The event will be attended by officials from the North Gyeongsang Provincial Office of Education, North Chungcheong Provincial Office of Education, and the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO).
This signing aims to establish a foundation for nurturing future talent and to support innovation in classroom teaching and assessment by ensuring the stable operation of the IB program.
The signing ceremony will be attended by IB education officials from the Busan, North Gyeongsang, and North Chungcheong Offices of Education, as well as IBO representatives including Haif Bannayan, IBO Global Business Development Director.
With this memorandum, the three education offices and the IBO will establish a close collaborative system to help students grow into individuals who respect different cultures and possess self-directed learning capabilities.
These organizations plan to cooperate on initiatives such as promoting domestic IB education projects, localizing the IB program into Korean, expanding Korean-language workshops for teacher IB professional development, and strengthening support for schools operating the IB program.
Ha Yoonsoo, Superintendent of the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, said, "With the signing of this memorandum, our office can further spread consensus on the IB curriculum and provide students with diverse educational opportunities. We will do our utmost to ensure that the robust operation of IB education becomes a solid cornerstone for 'Hopeful Busan Education,' helping children realize their dreams."
The 'IB program,' currently implemented in over 160 countries worldwide, is an internationally accredited curriculum developed by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) headquartered in Switzerland. It aims to draw out students' thinking through inquiry-based learning, collaborative exploration, and descriptive and essay-type assessments.
