Amsa Station Park Station Established, Improving Subway Accessibility for Amsa-dong Residents
The extension connecting Amsa Station, the terminus of Seoul Subway Line 8, to Byeollae Station on the Gyeongchun Line will begin full operation starting from the 10th of next month.
On the 11th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it recently completed the commercial trial run of the 12.9 km extension section and will open it from the first train on August 10. The commercial trial run is the final stage of the comprehensive railway test operation, where the train operation system, crew, and station staff proficiency are checked under conditions identical to actual passenger service. Now, only administrative procedures such as the comprehensive report for opening and approval of changes to the safety management system remain.
Seoul Subway Line 8 initially opened the Moran to Jamsil section (13.1 km, 14 stations) in November 1996 and the Jamsil to Amsa section (4.6 km, 4 stations) in July 1999. With the opening of the Amsa to Byeollae section (12.9 km, 6 stations), Seoul Subway Line 8 will operate a total of 30.6 km with 24 stations.
Commuting for citizens will become more convenient. Previously, traveling from Jamsil Station to Byeollae Station took about 44 minutes by existing urban rail and at least about 33 minutes by express bus, but with the opening of the Line 8 extension (Byeollae Line), it will take about 27 minutes. Additionally, transfers will be possible to Line 2 (Jamsil), Line 3 (Garak Market), Line 5 (Cheonho), Line 9 (Seokchon), Suin-Bundang Line (Bokjeong, Moran), Gyeongui-Jungang Line (Guri), and Gyeongchun Line (Byeollae).
To extend Subway Line 8 to Byeollae Station, Seoul will add 9 train sets (each consisting of 6 cars). The trains will operate at intervals of 4.5 minutes during rush hours and 8.0 minutes during normal times, with a maximum speed of 80 km/hr. 'Amsa Station Park Station' was designed reflecting the image of the prehistoric site in Amsa-dong. It features 'Fragments of Time' by artist O Kyung-sun, with a motif of comb-patterned pottery.
