'9 Dead' Driver Who Drove Backwards at Sicheong Station, First Police Investigation Today
The police will conduct the first suspect interrogation of the driver involved in the major traffic accident at Seoul City Hall Station that resulted in 16 casualties.
Seoul Namdaemun Police Station announced on the afternoon of the 4th that they plan to conduct the first suspect interrogation of the driver, Mr. Cha (68).
The police previously booked Mr. Cha on charges of professional negligence causing death and injury under the Special Act on Traffic Accident Handling, but he is currently hospitalized with fractured ribs.
Therefore, the police plan to visit the hospital for the suspect interrogation within the day.
At around 9:28 p.m. on the 1st, Mr. Cha’s Genesis G80 vehicle crashed onto the sidewalk in Taepyeong-ro, Jung-gu, Seoul, resulting in 9 pedestrian deaths and 7 injuries. Investigations revealed that Mr. Cha’s vehicle exited the underground parking lot of the Chosun Hotel, drove against the one-way traffic, and hit pedestrians as well as two vehicles, a BMW and a Sonata.
