From July 13 to August 10, Festival at the Outdoor Yard of the National Gugak Center Busan
The National Gugak Center in Busan (Director: Lee Jungyeop) will host the 2024 Yeongnam Dance Festival "Chum, Bogosipda" from July 13 to August 10, providing an open stage for dancers to promote Busan and Yeongnam dance and foster unity among artists.
During the Yeongnam Dance Festival, every Saturday will feature outdoor performances and busking events, "Gugak-ro" and "Yeongnam Dance Fringe," at the outdoor yard of the National Gugak Center in Busan, where the public can join in and enjoy.
The busking event "Gugak-ro" is a street performance with local young gugak groups, held every Saturday from July 6 to August 10 at the outdoor yard of the center. It is designed to create a festive atmosphere by facilitating exchange and harmony among local art organizations active in various fields such as instrumental music, vocal music, and dance.
The performances will include not only gugak performances, but also dance performances in which the audience can participate. Participating groups include the gugak group "Ippeul" (gugak chamber music, Korean dance, pansori), ensemble "Ido" (gugak chamber music, contemporary dance, pansori), modern gugak band "Talpi" (gugak chamber music, Korean dance, pansori), and the art organization "Baekui" (gugak chamber music, b-boy, Korean dance, pansori), all presenting interactive stages with the audience.
The "Yeongnam Dance Fringe" event on July 27 is an open stage combining hands-on experiences and fun for the public?a lively cultural space created freely without being bound by genre or form.
Alongside the performances, a variety of outdoor experience programs will be offered to encourage citizen participation in the festival, such as making folk painting fans, silk screen printing, bubble experiences, caricatures, and more, all of which can be enjoyed in a short time.
The performances will also cater to children, with "Kim Poongseon's Magic Bubble" bubble show, "Pungnyu Dongin Damso's Vocal Performance" where visitors can sing along to Yeongnam folk songs, a dance and art collaboration performance, and "Yeonhui Jipdan Jatagongin" presenting a comprehensive art performance featuring lion mask dance, various pangut, folk songs, and more?allowing audiences of all ages to enjoy gugak without barriers.
The outdoor performances are open to everyone and are free of charge. In case of rain, the "Gugak-ro" busking will be held in the B1 floor of the Gugak Experience Hall at the National Gugak Center in Busan, while the "Yeongnam Dance Fringe" will take place in the Yeonakdang Hall, with experience programs in the Yeonakdang lobby.
Detailed information about the performances can be found on the website of the National Gugak Center in Busan.
