On the 1st (local time), Western Power announced on the 2nd that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the Promotion of the Uzbek Farm Biofuel Conversion Greenhouse Gas Reduction Project with the government of Fergana Province and Purkat City in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. This project is an international greenhouse gas reduction initiative supported by the Korean Ministry of Environment, which replaces coal used for heating by local farms with biofuel made from agricultural waste, specifically cotton stalks.
Through this project, Western Power expects to reduce approximately 120,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions over the next 10 years and generate about 2.7 billion KRW in biofuel sales revenue. Additionally, since Korea and Uzbekistan are parties to the international reduction agreement under the Paris Climate Agreement, Korean companies operating in Uzbekistan to reduce greenhouse gases can share the reduction achievements.
