Suwon City Operates Road Surface Rainwater Sprayers to Mitigate Urban Heat Island Effect
The city of Suwon in Gyeonggi Province will fully operate 'road surface rainwater sprayers' and 'rainwater supply devices' to mitigate the urban heat island effect during the hot summer season.
On the 24th, Suwon City announced that it will operate road surface rainwater spraying systems at four major road points in the city and supply rainwater for various uses from seven rainwater supply devices. Last month, Suwon City inspected the road surface rainwater spraying systems and rainwater supply devices.
The road surface rainwater spraying system sprays collected rainwater onto the roads. It operates when the temperature is above 30 degrees Celsius or when a heatwave advisory is issued, helping to lower the temperature. It also sprays rainwater during fine dust advisories to help reduce fine dust.
The installed locations are four sections: ▲Gwanggyo Jungang-ro in front of Suwon Convention Center ▲Gyeongsu-daero in front of Suwon Sports Complex ▲World Cup-ro in front of Suwon World Cup Stadium ▲Wellbeing Town-ro in front of Gwanggyo Middle School.
The rainwater supply devices are installed at seven locations: Suwon World Cup Stadium, Suwon Sports Complex, Gwanggyo Middle School, Dasan Park (2 units), Iuigung Dojang, and Gwanggyo The Live, with a total supply capacity of 44,000 cubic meters.
