Hyundai Motor and Kia Europe May Sales 92,000 Units... 5% Decrease Year-on-Year
Hyundai Motor's 'Strong Performance', Kia's Double-Digit Decline
Hyundai Motor Company and Kia saw their sales in Europe in May decrease by about 5% compared to the same period last year. While Hyundai's sales performed well, Kia experienced a double-digit decline in sales.
According to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) on the 21st, Hyundai and Kia's combined sales in the European market last month totaled 92,196 units. This represents a 4.9% decrease compared to May of the previous year. The decline was greater than the overall European market's decrease in vehicle sales (-2.6%) during the same period, causing their market share to drop by 0.2 percentage points to 8.4%.
Hyundai performed well, but Kia was somewhat sluggish. Hyundai's sales reached 46,697 units, an increase of 2.8% compared to the same period last year. In contrast, Kia sold 45,499 units, down 11.7% from the same month last year. Hyundai's market share rose by 0.2 percentage points to 4.3%, while Kia's market share fell by 0.4 percentage points to 4.2%.
The cumulative sales from January to May totaled 461,758 units, a 1.5% decrease compared to the same period last year. During the same period, Hyundai increased sales by 4.4% to 228,365 units, while Kia's sales dropped by 6.7% to 233,393 units. The total European market sales from January to May this year grew by 4.6% to 5,569,024 units compared to the previous year.

In terms of sales by model last month, Hyundai's Tucson ranked first with 10,792 units sold, followed by the Kona (7,496 units) and the i20 (5,726 units). For Kia, the Sportage was the best-selling model with 15,032 units, followed by the Ceed (9,049 units) and the Niro (6,004 units).
